The Wave Academy is dedicated to expanding the role of Aquatic Bodywork Therapy as a powerful tool in the healing and advancement of individuals, communities and the human condition.
Founded by Dave Towe, Wave Academy was launched in December 2010 in San Diego, California, as a 501(c)3 educational non-profit organization. The Wave Academy is dedicated to expanding the role of Aquatic Bodywork Therapy as a powerful tool in the healing and advancement of individuals, communities and the human condition. By providing services in San Diego, home of the largest military population in the United States, the organization supports healing families, preventing suicide, and creating hope for the men and women who honorably dedicated their lives in service to our country, their families and caretakers.
In 2007 while in private practice, Dave Towe received a knock on his door. He curiously opened it and standing in front of him was the mother of a young Army veteran. She explained her son had been suffering from Post Traumatic Stress since returning from war. The doctors had put him on several medications that, though effective in depressing the nervous system, were keeping him from participating in the world around him. She had received private sessions from Dave in the past and understood first hand the healing benefits Aquatic Bodywork Therapy was making on people suffering from certain ailments. She asked him to please meet with her son. Dave agreed, and after a brief introduction, began his first treatment in the water. During that session, Dave noticed the veteran, through clouded eyes, would engage then disengage and re-engage. Over the following eight weeks of treatment he slowly went off the medication, became more engaged in life and was able to stay engaged in present time.
This experience was the beginning of Dave’s vision for an organization that addresses our Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who are suffering from the unseen wounds of war.
